Ebeneeza updates "A Christmas Carol" in Hartford, CT

A friend on Facebook posted a link about a play he saw in Hartford on Friday night. I've personally seen the wonderful version of " A Christmas Carol" at the Hartford Stage , but I had never even heard of this. By the description, it seems like a very touching version. It certainly was; for they had been two kindred spirits. At the ominous word ``liberality'', Scrooge frowned, and shook his head, and handed the credentials back. ``At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge,'' said the gentleman, taking up a pen, ``it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir.'' ``Are there no prisons?'' asked Scrooge. ``Plenty of prisons,'' said the gentleman, laying down the pen again. ``And the Union wo...

Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" part one

Browse the many versions of " A Christmas Carol " in print Browse Dickens' Village buildings and accessories from Department 56 Read Chapter One Read Chapter Two Wow, it's not easy coming up with fresh content every day, even if it's on a topic you love. This is why occasionally I may miss a day or two (or three!) or I may veer off-topic once in a while. I've been getting more and more mail recently from readers, so I think eventually I'll be getting fresh content from my audience as well as from my brain...I've been meaning to start publishing Charles Dickens ' " A Christmas Carol " in twelve weekly installments, complete with D56 pictures, leading up to Christmas itself. Now is as good a time as any to begin: A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. Off-Topic: Christmas Movies

He'll be a mean one, again, for sure. Did you hear that Robert Zemeckis has tapped Jim Carrey to play Ebenezer Scrooge AND the ghost of christmas past, present and future in a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' " A Christmas Carol " (slated for a 2008 release)? Now Mr. Carrey will have played both the Grinch and Scrooge. According to IMDB, " A Christmas Carol " has been done 26 times. I really like the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart , and of course the 1951 version with Alastair Sim . I used to be an advocate of Mr. Carrey taking on the role of George Bailey in a remake of " It's a Wonderful Life " alongside Meg Ryan as his romantic opposite, but now I am feeling a little Jim Carrey overload, especially with him playing all four roles in the new film.
