New ways to find D56, Christmas or Halloween Sales

dead creek mill department 56The web has delivered many new ways to shop. There are literally hundreds of shopping engines, which are basically search engines that have indexed thousands of stores and can compare pricing easily. I've researched quite a few, searched for Department 56 products, and found some interesting results:

Kaboodle.com - claims that "shopping is more fun with friends" and encourages users to discover new things from people with similar taste and style, recommend and discuss your favorite products and stores, and that you can simplify your life with wish lists and shopping lists. The above link finds multiple Department 56 matches.

ShopWiki - here I found the "Mill Creek Crossing" from New England Village. In a great example of why these sites work so well, you can see at one shopping destination, it's about half the price as on the other store. Compare, compare, compare!

Crowdstorm.com - Many of these newer shopping engines use reviews and recommendations from registered users. Crowdstorm had no matching results, but the above link found several "christmas" matches.

Etsy.com - specializes in handmade crafts. No D56 items either, but of course many handmade christmas crafts.

ThisNext.com - finds several matches of people and their wish lists of products, and several product reviews as well. As they put it: "Real Recommendations from Real People"

A Couple's Wintery Village Scenes

Showing that just because Christmas is over, doesn't mean it's time to take down your snowy scenes...I found this article in the Villages Daily Sun : "Walking in a winter wonderland takes on new meaning when anyone enters the home of Don and Lorraine Crowley. The couple have snowy scenes from the North Pole and Elfland set up in the living room, while the garage is filled with a huge Christmas in the City display, complete with streets, bridges and a baseball park. But for Lorraine, president of the Tri-County Department 56 Collector’s Club, the displays are nothing out of the ordinary, considering many of the club members have similar displays in their own homes. “Everybody has different ways of displaying it,” Lorraine said of the Department 56 collectibles. “You find different things. When somebody comes up with a unique idea, you try and share it. It’s always nice to see somebody do something different.” ... click here to read the rest of the article
