Brian Jones, owner of the "A Christmas Story" house, and http://www.redriderleglamps.com , let me know that he's just posted the new artist renditions of new pieces for Department 56's "A Christmas Story" series. He added that "All three of this year's new pieces revolve around the police that come to help Flick get unstuck from the flag pole. The police car in particular should allow collectors to complete the flag pole scene. I also have listed to exclusive re-releases for this season: The Perfect Tree and The Santa Float. I expect to have all these in stock in late September or earlier October." Exciting news!

Seems to be demand for a Harry Potter series

The Original Yahoo! Department 56 Collectors Group has come up with a brilliant idea for a new series - one that could be appropriate for a Halloween decor, in my opinion. Actually, several people seemed to echo the idea and say that they've sent suggestions to Department 56 . The idea? None other than the world of Harry Potter . The idea is perfect and the number of buildings and accessories which could be released are endless. The idea began when a member of the group posted this question: "Would you be interested in a Dept 56 Harry Potter village?" . Comments flowed back and forth the entire day yesterday: "I always thought the Harry Potter theme would make a great lighted village - can you imagine a Hogwarts Castle or an entire Diagon Alley with all the shops from the book?" Department 56's baseball stadiums

Department 56 baseball is a really fun collection for baseball fans and even fans who enjoy historical architecture. I've bought both the Yankee Stadium accent for my brother and the retired Yankee Stadium from Christmas in the City. I've purchased the Fenway Park accent as a gift as well. They're great, don't get me wrong, but I think D56 can do so much more. They can start with more stadiums, sold in regional areas as exclusives. I also would like to see a scale of the entire stadium from an overhead view as opposed to just the facade. I like the idea of doing the old time parks as opposed to the new sponsored stadiums. A "3com Park" piece just doesn't have the same ring to it as a classic "Ebbets Field".
