Department 56 makes for great gift ideas

Earlier this year I decided that everyone in my family is going to get Department 56 village buildings and accessories for both their birthdays and christmas.

Not only does it help us to easily find gifts for them, it also allows us to pair the right village series with the right people. You can usually find individual items that will have special meaning to each person also.

I selected New England Village for one of my nieces - starting out with the farm animals accessory. She loved it and asked me if there were other pieces for the village. She said she always wanted to collect a village. I was so happy that I spoiled a surprise - I told her along with her christmas present she's going to get a printout of all the pieces available in her village. There we go, another villager born!

My wife and I collect Snow Village Halloween, the Original Snow Village, and the A Christmas Story series.

My brother and his wife are slated to begin receiving the Dickens' Village A Christmas Carol subset.

My newly married niece and her husband will get pieces from Dicken's Village main set.

My other niece and her husband will be getting the fun-filled North Pole Series.

Yet another niece, along with my good friend from college and their two children, are going to get the Christmas In The City series, beginning with the baseball-related pieces.

My sister and her husband are going to get licensed items related to the NASCAR and Harley Davidson sets.

I've always enjoyed giving presents, but this will be the best year ever....!

P.S., this isn't a surprise because most of them have already received their first piece!

A Couple's Wintery Village Scenes

Showing that just because Christmas is over, doesn't mean it's time to take down your snowy scenes...I found this article in the Villages Daily Sun : "Walking in a winter wonderland takes on new meaning when anyone enters the home of Don and Lorraine Crowley. The couple have snowy scenes from the North Pole and Elfland set up in the living room, while the garage is filled with a huge Christmas in the City display, complete with streets, bridges and a baseball park. But for Lorraine, president of the Tri-County Department 56 Collector’s Club, the displays are nothing out of the ordinary, considering many of the club members have similar displays in their own homes. “Everybody has different ways of displaying it,” Lorraine said of the Department 56 collectibles. “You find different things. When somebody comes up with a unique idea, you try and share it. It’s always nice to see somebody do something different.” ... click here to read the rest of the article
