Featured D56 Collector #7: "Susquehanna Station"

What got you started collecting villages?
When my mom was here to visit in 2002 we went to a local store closing to look for a 5th year anniversary gift for my brother & sister in law. I had never really paid much attention to the
villages but knew the collections and what they were. The retail price was out of my league. I bought Center for the Arts and my mom purchased the Woodlake Chapel Starter Set.

How many years have you been collecting?
That fall to my surprise Kohls came out with two collections (Pine Isles & Holly Lane) I
bought Pine Isles. Suppose it was on my brain since buying the anniversary gift!! But my first 'regular' village piece was in April of 2005 via ebay.

What is your favorite D56 series?
Each series in unique - don't have a favorite. But it would be hardest to part with Pine Isles
since I bought it first.
How many displays do you build per year?
Only getting started that way. Has been one Halloween, one Christmas.

Do you keep a list of all your pieces that you own?
Yes.

What's the latest piece you've bought?
Susquehanna Station just this am!

How many people have you turned on to D56 collecting?
Nobody. My sister-in-law has the two buildings we gave her 5 years ago on display and hasn't bought one since!

Do you keep track of values of the pieces or not?
I know 'ebay' prices.

What else do you collect?
Nothing really.

What's the most unique display you''ve ever built?
Haven't as of yet...but have some ideas I can't wait to do!!

A Couple's Wintery Village Scenes

Showing that just because Christmas is over, doesn't mean it's time to take down your snowy scenes...I found this article in the Villages Daily Sun : "Walking in a winter wonderland takes on new meaning when anyone enters the home of Don and Lorraine Crowley. The couple have snowy scenes from the North Pole and Elfland set up in the living room, while the garage is filled with a huge Christmas in the City display, complete with streets, bridges and a baseball park. But for Lorraine, president of the Tri-County Department 56 Collector’s Club, the displays are nothing out of the ordinary, considering many of the club members have similar displays in their own homes. “Everybody has different ways of displaying it,” Lorraine said of the Department 56 collectibles. “You find different things. When somebody comes up with a unique idea, you try and share it. It’s always nice to see somebody do something different.” ... click here to read the rest of the article

Rest in Peace, Stan

A dark cloud formed over Manhattan yesterday, and just as suddenly, a bright light shine through the clouds as the sky was ripped from the inside out by thousands of legendary heroes, assembling to pay homage to their Creator and his aged typewriter. As each keystroke landed with a thud, the letters screamed out as loudly as they could, "Excelsior!”, one last time. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/stan-lee-photos-marvel-comics_us_5be9e7d9e4b044bbb1a77969
