Department 56 responds to my questions...

1) Will Sears be coming out with a third release of buildings and accessories for their exclusive "A Christmas Story" series?
"Yes, there will be new introductions for this series in 2007. If you go to the Department 56 website and click on Collecting and scroll down you will see Product Exclusives. The new 2007 pieces have not been added yet, but they will be up there soon."

- This is extremely exciting news!

2) What is the verdict on the controversial Department 56 brand stamp issue?
"What controversy?
"

- I then replied, informing her that many collectors were adamantly opposed to the idea.

3) What will be the next baseball parks released for Christmas In The City?
"We have no information to share on any new additions to this series. The next introductions will be in December, 2007."

- I should have asked if there will be a new Yankee Stadium to coincide with the construction of their brand new ballpark.

4) What happened to the official Department56 magazine?
"The Celebrations magazine was discontinued in Spring, 2006."

- But why? At least we have Village D-Lights!

5) When will Department 56 update their store locator?
"The next update will occur later this fall."

- At least for now we have a Google Map of Recommended Department56 shops. It will be updated Saturday with more recommendations.

The couple have snowy scenes from the North Pole and Elfland set up in the living room, while the garage is filled with a huge Christmas in the City display, complete with streets, bridges and a baseball park. But for Lorraine, president of the Tri-County Department 56 Collector’s Club, the displays are nothing out of the ordinary, considering many of the club members have similar displays in their own homes. “Everybody has different ways of displaying it,” Lorraine said of the Department 56 collectibles. “You find different things. When somebody comes up with a unique idea, you try and share it. It’s always nice to see somebody do something different.” ... click here to read the rest of the article

Rest in Peace, Stan

A dark cloud formed over Manhattan yesterday, and just as suddenly, a bright light shine through the clouds as the sky was ripped from the inside out by thousands of legendary heroes, assembling to pay homage to their Creator and his aged typewriter. As each keystroke landed with a thud, the letters screamed out as loudly as they could, "Excelsior!”, one last time. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/stan-lee-photos-marvel-comics_us_5be9e7d9e4b044bbb1a77969

Christmas delivered by the History Channel

The History Channel 's comprehensive website has dedicated an entire section to " Christmas ". It's a good read, and a great reference for those of us who like to delve into the particulars about Christmas events, trivia, specifics and traditions. Pages within this section include videos on " Santa Claus ", " Christmas Trees ", and the " History of Christmas ". Other content includes a page focusing on " Christmas Around the World ", " The Christmas Truce of 1914 ", as well as quite a bit else.
