Give thanks that Department 56 may emerge stronger from current situation

There are signs beginning to show which lead us to believe D56 may emerge as a better, more focused company than the entity which purchased Lenox. With the 2009 introductions just around the corner, village collectors can exhale and expect to see a stronger, more focused village-producing company in 2009 and beyond.

From the original Department 56 collectors group on Yahoo, one villager wrote:

"I thought you'd be interested to learn what my friend found out this past week in a conversation with her former Michigan D56 rep. There is a strong effort afoot to "extract" the core D56 business from the Lenox abyss and keep some semblance of the village business going into the future. This has been rumored in postings by others here but it is the first time that I've heard something fairly definite and accurate from an insider. I think this news, coupled with the planned 09 introductions in the coming month, is another reason
to be encouraged that we aren't on the verge of completely losing the source of
our passion.

Just like with the current round of inaccurate postings regarding large retail corporations going out of business and the admonition to not buy gift cards, I think we all need to pause a moment and realize that the kind of panic that can be set off by the doom-n-gloom crowd doesn't help any aspect of our economy."

A Couple's Wintery Village Scenes

Showing that just because Christmas is over, doesn't mean it's time to take down your snowy scenes...I found this article in the Villages Daily Sun : "Walking in a winter wonderland takes on new meaning when anyone enters the home of Don and Lorraine Crowley. The couple have snowy scenes from the North Pole and Elfland set up in the living room, while the garage is filled with a huge Christmas in the City display, complete with streets, bridges and a baseball park. But for Lorraine, president of the Tri-County Department 56 Collector’s Club, the displays are nothing out of the ordinary, considering many of the club members have similar displays in their own homes. “Everybody has different ways of displaying it,” Lorraine said of the Department 56 collectibles. “You find different things. When somebody comes up with a unique idea, you try and share it. It’s always nice to see somebody do something different.” ... click here to read the rest of the article

Rest in Peace, Stan

A dark cloud formed over Manhattan yesterday, and just as suddenly, a bright light shine through the clouds as the sky was ripped from the inside out by thousands of legendary heroes, assembling to pay homage to their Creator and his aged typewriter. As each keystroke landed with a thud, the letters screamed out as loudly as they could, "Excelsior!”, one last time. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/stan-lee-photos-marvel-comics_us_5be9e7d9e4b044bbb1a77969

Pages within this section include videos on " Santa Claus ", " Christmas Trees ", and the " History of Christmas ". Other content includes a page focusing on " Christmas Around the World ", " The Christmas Truce of 1914 ", as well as quite a bit else.
